मैंने किताबें थामी थीं,

धर्म के नियम पढ़ने को।

पर जब किसी ने कहा,

"ये पन्ने तुम्हारे ईश्वर तक नहीं जाते,"

तो मेरी आत्मा कांप उठी।

क्या सच में ये ग्रंथ मेरा आधार हैं?

या बस मेरे खाली मन के सहारे हैं?

मैंने झंडे फहराए थे,

धर्म के नाम पर।

पर जब कोई हवा उन झंडों को उड़ाने आई,

तो मेरी आस्था बिखरने लगी।

क्या ये झंडे मेरे विश्वास के प्रतीक थे?

या मेरे अहंकार की ढाल मात्र?

कोई आया और कहा,

"तेरे धार्मिक भाव झूठे हैं।"

तो दोष किसका था?

उसका, जिसने मिटाया?

मैंने खोजा भीतर,

एक ऐसा धर्म,

जो उधार न हो।

जो किसी ग्रंथ, पत्थर,

या झंडे का मोहताज न हो।

जो मेरा हो,

अब मैं अदालत नहीं जाता,

न किसी से लड़ाई करता।

रेत पर महल बना रहे हो,

क्यों इतना इतराए जा रहे हो?

धर्म तुम्हारा यदि सच है,

तो धक्के से क्यों हिल जा रहे हो?

लोहे जैसा धर्म चाहिए,

जो चोट से और निखर जाए।

पर तुम तो बांसों के झुरमुट में,

अपना आसरा बनाए जा रहे हो।

उधार का है जो धर्म तुम्हारा,

क्यों उसे अपना माने जा रहे हो?

गुरुमंत्र की बासी बातों पर,

जीवन का महल खड़ा कर रहे हो।

क्यों नहीं खुद अनुभव करते,

सत्य को अपने भीतर धरते?

जो भी चोट तुम्हें लगे,

क्यों नहीं उसे समर्पण से सहते?

अदालत जाओ, फरियाद करो,

कह दो, "मुझे चोट लगी है।"

पर सोचो, क्यों इतनी कमजोर,

तुम्हारी आत्मा सजी है?

धर्म तुम्हारा अनुभव हो,

जो झंझाओं में भी अडिग रहे।

कोई लाख कोशिश कर ले,

पर तुम्हारा विश्वास स्थिर रहे।

रेत पर महल बनाने वाले,

क्यों ना चट्टानों पर काम करो?

सत्य का दीपक जलाओ भीतर,

अंधकार को परे हर बार करो।

किसी का फूंका मंत्र सुना,

और उसे अपना मान लिया।

सत्य की खोज अधूरी छोड़ी,

और झूठ को सत्य मान लिया।

क्यों ना खुद चलो भीतर,

सत्य का रत्न खोजो गहरे?

उधार के कंधों पर चलकर,

क्या मिलेगा सत्य तुम्हें सहरे?

धर्म तो खुद का अनुभव है,

जो कोई छीन ना पाए।

जो चोट से और निखर जाए,

जो समय के साथ गहराए।

तो छोड़ो ये बासी बातें,

जो दूसरों ने कान में डालीं।

अपना सत्य खोजो भीतर,

जहां ना कोई बात फिसलने वाली।

चट्टानों पर जो टिक गए,

बस वही कहानी कहने वाली है।

रेत पर महल क्यों बनाएं?

मैंने देखा है,

लोग अपने धर्म को ढोते हुए,

जैसे बांस का टूटा टुकड़ा,

जो किसी तेज़ हवा में काँप उठे।

क्यों ऐसा धर्म?

क्यों इतना लचर विश्वास,

जो चोट की हल्की सी भनक से गिर जाए?

क्या यह धर्म है?

या बस उधार के शब्द,

जो बिना जड़ के, हवा में झूलते हैं?

मैंने सुना है,

कोई अदालत में जाकर कहता है,

"मुझे चोट पहुँची है,

मेरे धार्मिक भाव को ठेस लगी है।"

मैं पूछता हूँ,

ऐसा कमजोर भाव तुम रखते क्यों हो?

क्यों नहीं बनाते अपने भीतर

एक धर्म, जो पहाड़ जैसा अडिग हो?

जो आग से भी गुजर जाए,

लेकिन राख न हो।

मेरा धर्म मेरा अनुभव है।

कोई चाहे लाख कोशिश कर ले,

उसे चोट कैसे पहुँचा सकेगा?

पर मैंने उन्हें देखा है,

जो उधार की बातों पर

महल खड़े कर लेते हैं।

रेत पर खींची लकीरों को

स्थायी मान बैठते हैं।

और जब पहली लहर आती है,

तो उनका धर्म, उनका विश्वास,

ढह जाता है।

धर्म को उधार मत लो,

धर्म को खोजो।
